LOUIS - JOSEPH DE MONTCALM
- Became commander-in-chief of French forces in North America
- Well-respected in New France
- Promoted to commander in 1756
- During Seven Years’ War, defended against British at Fort Carillon & Fort Henry
- Promoted to become second highest ranked lieutenant-general in French army in 1758
- In 1759, led attack against British at Quebec, lost battle and was mortally wounded, died next morning
Pierre de Rigaud Marquis de Vaudreuil-Cavangnial
- 1755 he became the governor of Canada
- replacing the Marquis Duquesne. last governor general of New France.
- He followed his father into the TROUPES DE LA MARINE.
- His responsibility for the military was complicated because he had to reinforce the colonies
- After Montcalm's defeat in Battle he left instructions with T.B.N.R. de RAMEZAY to surrender the town under certain conditions.
- Vaudreuil surrendered the colony at Montréal on Sept 8
- He was strongly criticized for his action by the French military and the court.
